Day Off

Today is the first "snow day" in our household. Most of the schools canceled school for today. Although it's not due to the volume of snow. We only had about 2 inches at most. It's mainly due to the record freezing temps. It's currently -11 degrees right now with a wind chill of -31. I haven't been outside yet, but Whit had to go to work. I was pretty worried about his drive in. It'll be like driving on a skating rink. I'm so glad that I don't have to deal with it though. When I was driving yesterday, I actually had to pull over from the highway because there was so much freezing rain dropping on my windshield that I had a sheet of ice. My car defroster hadn't yet warmed up enough to melt the ice. Poor Ella, she has to contend with Mommy's driving. During the summer I would get lost all the time. Now, my car slides around and the windshield freezes. She is such a trooper.

I'm very grateful for a lot of things today. I'm so glad that we have a well-built house with a working furnace. I'm also so grateful that I can be home safe and not outside or driving around. I'm also grateful that these kinds of temps are a rarity in Colorado and not typical during most winters. If winter temps were always like this, I would not last out here. Things are supposed to improve for us by Thursday. If it's cold again tomorrow, maybe there will be another snow day.
