Career Thoughts

For the last six months or so Ella has really been thinking hard about what she wants to be when she grows up. This is a relatively new thing. When she was younger it was a pretty vague concept to her. At the age of two when I asked her what she wanted to be when she grows up, she told me a kangaroo.

A few months ago she told me that she wanted to be a dentist. I was so proud. I began to have visions of myself at 50 with perfectly white teeth.

Recently she has decided that she wants to be a "rock star." When Whit and I asked her what instrument she wants to play in her future rock band, she is insistent that she wants to play the tuba. In fact, she told Whit that she wants him to get her a tuba the next time he goes to the mall.

I think that Ella has finally figured it all out. This morning she said, "When I grow up I want to be a rock star, a dentist, and a trash man. I'll do the rock star on Thursday, the dentist on Friday, and the trash truck on Saturday." She's also been really into the days of the week lately. Gotta love her thinking! I'm just glad that she doesn't want to be a teacher when she grows up.

Parent Viewing Day at Ballet Class

Pictures of Ella's ballet class. She might look a little peaked because she was right in the middle of fighting a cold. Her little eyes were so puffy and watery. Poor baby. Also, there are normally 4 in her ballet class, but one was skiing. Great ratio though!

Parent Viewing Day at Ballet

Video of Ella's ballet class during the parent viewing day. The video is pretty low quality because I was using my little camera's video mode.

Back to School?

Well, my mental health day went very well. I was able to register Ella for Kinder and a swim class which she started yesterday. I also did a little bit of shopping for myself. Overall it was a much needed day of taking care of business.

At work on Friday I was approached by one of my bosses (there are like 5+ administrators at my school). The conversation went like this:

Boss: Norma (head, head honcho) would like you to sign up for a class this spring, since you were planning on taking a class during the summer.
Me: When is the class and when does it start?
Boss: It's on Tuesday nights from 4 to 6:20. Classes start March 21st.
Me: I will have to check with my husband to see if he can come home early to watch Ella.
Boss: Okay, we need to register you soon, so let me know early next week.

So, basically I felt very pressured to sign up for this class. I was planning on going back to school during the summer and I felt very good about that because I knew that I could handle the work load. I'm going to eventually earn my "gifted certificate." One of the benefits of working for the University of Denver is that I get free tuition. So, I definitely wanted to take advantage, but I don't really feel mentally prepared yet. However, if Norma wants you to do something, you do it. So, after talking to Whit, I'm going to be taking that spring class. It actually should be interesting because it's going to be focused on identifying gifted learners.

So, back to school I go. Less than a year after I swore off school forever after finishing the clear credential program.
